Prof. Stanislaw Bielecki, PhD, Eng, DSc, Dhc
Professor whose work encompasses molecular and industrial biotechnology, enzyme and biosystems engineering, and applied biocatalysis (including unconventional media). His research also covers oligo- and polysaccharide biosynthesis, biomaterials development, and—particularly—bacterial nanocellulose biosynthesis, with technologies implemented at industrial scale. He founded the Lodz School of Industrial Biotechnology and co-founded the International Center for Research on Innovative Biobased Materials (ICRIBioM). He has been a visiting professor and lecturer in Spain, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Austria, the United States, and China. He previously served at Lodz University of Technology as Rector, Vice-Rector for Research and University Development, and Director of the Institute of Technical Biochemistry. He has contributed to national and European initiatives shaping industrial biotechnology and the bioeconomy, including the Biotechnology Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the European Federation of Biotechnology, the European Society of Applied Biocatalysis, European Commission’s Bioeconomy Stakeholders Panel (co-author of the Bioeconomy Manifesto), and the Association of Polish Bioeconomy Clusters. He has also helped shape higher education and science policy in Poland and Europe through leadership roles in KRASP and the European University Association. He holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde.
